Nearly 15 years ago, I founded 352 while a student at the University of Florida. Today, we’re celebrating the foundation of a new 352. As we unveil our new website and new brand, I’d like to explore how we got to where we are today.
When I started the company, it was me and a couple of friends designing simple websites out of my room in a fraternity house. We charged next to nothing, and as a result, we quickly built up a client base.
I ran a 1-800 number into my fraternity house room to take website requests from customers across the country. My fellow fraternity brothers helped cover the phone when I was in class during the day, which actually worked quite well. Except for the days my fraternity brothers decided to start partying at ten in the morning.
At that time we were called SpyderWeb Page Creation (brilliant name, I know). A few years later, I was near graduation and saw an opportunity to turn my part-time operation into a real career opportunity. I opened an office, brought on some new partners, hired my first employees, and incorporated as Silverscape Technologies, Inc. to make websites for clients with slightly higher budgets than in our dorm room days.
Soon after, we started doing business as 352 Media Group, and our brand really started to catch on. We grew throughout the 2000s, making the INC 5000 list of the fastest growing privately held companies several times and attracting prominent clients like Microsoft and Wells Fargo.
We’ve seen plenty of high points (and our share of struggles too) during our history. We’ve celebrated winning key accounts, launching big projects and seeing our employees accomplish great things.
But I can honestly tell you: today is the most exciting of them all.
Building a 15-Year-Old Startup
In my 15 years at the head of this company, I have never been as excited as I am today. Today, we celebrate the beginning of a new 352. And we’re doing it with a new brand image and company name – we are no longer 352 Media Group, we are simply 352.
Our company has undergone an amazing transformation during the last couple of years. We have organized into several cross-functional project teams, with each team focused on only one client project at a time. This has enabled us to build incredibly deep relationships with our clients.
We incorporated the philosophies of agile software development into our process which has allowed us to be more innovative and complete projects several times faster – weeks rather than months. We created exceptional digital marketing teams and a user experience (UX) design team to become a full-service digital agency for our clients.
With our new vision and methodology, I feel like we are a 15 year old start-up, and the possibilities of our new company are boundless.
Who We Are
We also established new company values that reflect who we are and what we believe in as a company:
- EVERYTHING STARTS WITH INSPIRED PEOPLE.
- TEAMWORK amplifies our talents and elevates our abilities.
- BUILDING RELATIONSHIPS empowers us to delight and amaze.
- SMART SOLUTIONS create exceptional results.
- CELEBRATING WINS fuels our culture.
Through all this change, we are a different, better company than we were a few years ago. But, our look and marketing presence hadn’t kept up with this change, so this year we decided to bring our brand into focus. We tasked several of our designers to work together on a new logo and company aesthetic that you’ve seen hints of in the last few weeks.
New Look, New Name
Our new logo features five interlacing circles, representing the five values we hold dear. The interlacing aspect of the circles corresponds to our team members working together, with the client in the center of the team.
This process brought the realization that our company name itself was inconsistent with our brand. The words “media group” felt limiting and inaccurately conveyed the types of digital solutions we now deliver. Condensing our company name to simply “352” is a demonstration of our elevated confidence in our limitless future.
Along with our new name and logo comes our new website and blog, which I believe do a wonderful job of representing who we are and what we are capable of. Please take a few minutes to click around, read about our solutions and watch our new videos. I think you’ll agree that our team did a wonderful job on our new brand.
Our new name and brand truly signal a new beginning, and our future is brighter than ever. I’m unbelievably excited to have worked side-by-side with my team to create a new 352 that we are all tremendously proud of.
We can’t wait to show you what we’re capable of.
