Our company has enjoyed some pretty good search engine rankings over the years, but we are in a golden age of sorts.
A quick search on Google for Web design company yields a 352 Media Group result of #2; search for Web development company and we are #1. This is due in a large part of the efforts of our CEO and VP of Marketing for sure, but it also a product of us just being around a long time and putting out pretty cool stuff.
Some of that “cool” stuff is done in Microsoft’s newest development tool, Silverlight. Now we have been fortunate to have been developing with this since it’s beta release some time ago and have been doing it ever since. So a quick search for Silverlight Design in Google nets a natural #1 ranking for the home team. Not bad if I do say so myself.
Oddly enough that result varies when you do it in Live Search. We show up 7 of 8 when you don’t count the two paid results at the top; both of which are Microsoft’s as well.
So I guess in the more random algorithms of Google’s search we just perform better for things pertaining to Microsoft. This isn’t a huge shock, but an interesting observation. I wonder how many other things are different with Google and its own properties within its own search?
Well as of today, 3.13.08, Google is still the 800 lb. gorilla in the search space and I certainly won’t complain as to where we show up in those results when people search for all things interactive.
