The importance of a persons name…

Dale Carnegie “Remember that a person’s name is to that person the sweetest and most important sound in any language.”

I do not think that my name is very difficult, nor do I sound French (as one person suggested Sunday morning). When dealing with clients it is very important to get their names correct, this includes pronunciation and spelling. Pronunciation is more difficult I know, but spelling should not be an issue, just ask them if you are not sure.

I have had a serious amount of issues while living in the states with my name, 1 in 10 people get it right, here are some images of mail and receipts I have received lately…

Fortune Magazine

Gerber Life Insurance

Keller Graduate School

The Michigan Group. 2 issues here this is a neighbor and they got my name from the residential directory and 2 we are not the ONeills

My personal favourite, this was proud work of a server at Pizza Pino in Ann Arbor (Coincidentally I am speaking there tomorrow)

How hard would it be to ask “how do you spell that”.

From here on, to save from future problems, I can be referred to as Dec (DECK).
