Turning Lemons in to Lemonade

Last week, Geoff wrote a post about people stealing from his ice cream shop’s tip jar.  It’s a problem that has been going on for awhile, and while the bounty from the heists isn’t anything crazy, it’s still enough to really upset you. Well I’ve got an idea to turn this rash of tip taking in to a golden marketing opportunity.

So, Geoff, you already have cameras there.  You have the bait in the form of someone else’s money.  You have the actors, in the form of deplorable petty criminals.  So all you need is the net.  I haven’t fully thought this out yet, so let’s say you put a little device in the jar that shocks on contact, or some sort of less scary bear trap.  I think you see where I’m going.

Can you imagine the number of views your video will get with some idiot running around your store with a tip jar stuck to their arm?  YouTube may need to add a few more servers.  If you’ve ever watched those police bait cars online, you know what I’m talking about.  There’s just a special joy honest people get from watching criminals get what is coming to them.

Only worry I think you have is getting sued by the criminal.  Isn’t our justice system great?!
